Rationalising Mediterranean Sea Ways: 

from Southern-Eastern to Northern-Western ports

Taking stock of the progress on the preliminary design of the port’s new layout: that was the goal of the visit to Porto Torres, last week, of the 3 Sardinia's Optimed project partners (the Autonomous Region of Sardinia - RAS, the University of Cagliari - CIREM and the Port Authority of Olbia and Golfo Aranci). The meeting has been organised to verify the actual feasibility of the planned interventions, taking into account that the new layout is conceived in order to equip and organize the infrastructure so as to meet OPTIMED project objectives.

A group of ten people from Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Tunisia underwent a specialized training dedicated to intermodal transport as a way to improve the efficiency of freight circulation between ports of the Mediterranean Sea. 

The training course, organised last February in Barcelona under the OPTIMED project, offered to participants the opportunity to develop their expertise in relevant concepts and tools associated to intermodal transport including: motorways of the sea, short sea shipping and e-freight.

It was held in Barcelona the institutional meeting between the General Director for Transport of Region Sardinia, Gabriella Massidda, the technical project coordinator, Paolo Fadda, the director of the European School of Short Sea Shipping of Barcelona, Eduard Rodes, and the General Director of Transport and Mobility of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Mr. Pere Pedrosa, aimed at presenting the project and sharing opinions and ideas on transport issues in both regions.

The 3rd Optimed project Steering Committee Meeting took place in Barcelona, Spain, on December 1st and 2nd 2014, hosted by the Association of the Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASCAME).

The 2nd Optimed project Steering Committee Meeting took place in Beirut, Lebanon, on June, 18/19th, 2014, hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Beirut and Mount Lebanon - CCIABML.

During the meeting, the partners presented the state of progress of the project and agreed on the future actions to undertake in order to meet the deadlines indentified in the Action Plan.
