OPTIMED project has been presented to the representatives of the 43 Member States of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), on the occasion of the first 2016 Senior Officials meeting, which was held in Barcelona, Spain, last 16th February.
The UFM is a multilateral partnership aiming at increasing the potential for regional integration and cohesion among Euro-Mediterranean countries. The mission of UFM focuses on identifying, processing, promoting and coordinating regional projects that enhance and strengthen cooperation at Euro-Mediterranean level under six priority areas, among which the “De-pollution of the Mediterranean” and “Maritime and land highways” (visit UFM website to know more).
The endorsement by UfM Member States of OPTIMED, by according to it the UfM label, would definitely contribute to give the project wider and concrete perspectives of implementation under the objectives of the European Union policies in the maritime sector.
